May 1, 2023

Florin Hilbay, the current dean of Silliman University’s College of Law, and former Solicitor General of the Philippines, recently spoke at the Bitcoin Conference, where he shared his perspective on Bitcoin as a language. Prior to this, he is also the author of the book, "Bitcoin: An Introduction to the Peer-to-Peer, Open Source, Censorship-Resistant, Immutable, Permissionless, Decentralized, Global, Digital Monetary Network of the 21st Century."

During his talk, Hilbay emphasized that language and money are essentially the same.

“If you’re trying to understand any civilization, its ability to scale, thrive, survive will depend on: Number 1.) The existence of a communications protocol with language, and Number 2.) The existence of a communications protocol for exchanging value. So language and monetary systems are at one of the most important civilizational protocols that allow us to scale as human beings.”

This (Bitcoin) is the best form of money there is. This is the best protocol. This is the best protocol using the best form of medium humans have ever discovered and invented,” Hilbay stated during his talk.

Florin Hilbay is recognized for his active role as a prominent advocate for Bitcoin awareness, particularly within academic institutions. He acknowledges that Bitcoin could offer Filipinos a way to access financial services and participate in the global economy, especially for those who are underserved by traditional banking systems.

Florin Hilbay's talk at the Bitcoin Conference provided valuable insights to the retreat’s attendees. As the world seeks to understand the impact of this cryptocurrency on the global financial landscape, Hilbay's perspective is poised to play a significant role in shaping the ongoing discourse.
